About Whitfield’s

The front facade of Whitfield's on Guilford Green on the old Henry Hale store

Just 20 minutes east of New Haven, Guilford, CT is regarded as the most beautiful and historical town on the Connecticut shoreline. It boasts not one, but two historic districts, one of which encompasses the largest town green in New England… and it’s a great location for a restaurant.

Whitfield’s on Guilford Green occupies the entire first floor of what – in 1873 – was known as Henry Hale’s store in a fully restored Victorian overlooking the historic green in Guilford, CT. Our guests can watch the hustle and bustle of Guilford townspeople through leaded glass windows while dining on seafood the likes of Chilean Sea Bass and Yellow Fin Tuna. Or certified Black Angus beef… mouth-watering filet mignon and New York Strip steaks. Did we mention house-made desserts?

And how about a great cup of coffee to accompany your house-made dessert? We serve Lavazza coffee at breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Whitfield’s is a true American Cafe offering great food and wine seven days a week – as well as a martini bar. The menu varies from season to season but always manages to delight with an eclectic mix of traditional fare and contemporary cuisine. The décor and atmosphere complete the experience. The restaurant lays claim to a 24-foot mural painted by local artist Sandra Kensler. Other works of art grace the walls. Feel like outdoor dining? Ask to be seated on the outdoor patio overlooking the sculpture garden – weather permitting, of course.

Come for the history or come for the food. Either way, you’re going to love every bite at Whitfield’s on Guilford Green, an American Cafe.
